montessori schoolhouse rocks

elliot is developing into quite the mathematician.  he counts to a thousand by 3s, 5s, 7s 9s, etc., he adds, he subtracts, divides and multiplies... into the thousands!  they do some crazy work at his school, so here are some photos of his process:

all of that, eventually leads to this:

while math is great and all, he is also learning some practical skills like sewing.  finally, he can help darn socks and sew lonely buttons back onto coats (a common problem at our house).  he will also certainly be enlisted to contribute more to the holiday crafting next year.

only a couple months into montessori, maisie can take out a rug, roll it back up, change her shoes several times in an hour, and throw cups at kids who take her plate before she is finished eating (yes, we're working on that one).  oh yeah, she can also rifle through the class' lost-and-found bin for a single purple hand glove, then proceed to sport the one-glove michael jackson look.

yep, maisie's first school picture:  pretty remarkably perfect in my very unbiased opinion.

thankfully, elliot too seems to have evaded the "weir photo curse."  phew!

our little fella is growing up!  while we know this, we don't often see the physical changes.  however, when comparing school pictures, you certainly can see that he has lost something between ages 4 and 5 (and i am not thinking of a haircut).

the easter bunny brought sunglasses, global warming brought sun and warmth in march, and i kept a family tradition alive by making an easter dress and matching tie.

the last slideshow left much to be desired, so i have been on the hunt for a new way to create & post them.  after a 2 month search and a few false starts, i think i have found it (and can even add lame music).  so after long last, here are some pics from winter at the weirhaus (and sprousehouse).

things kicked off with factory like christmas crafting (the kids lucked out and got assembly line "light" while we did the heavy lifting), then chirstmas festivities with the sprouses, hanses, binghams and a cherkis (we love you unkie t!).  after various other inside activities like flying with jetpacks, "being a baby" in the "old" sling, a trip to the art museum, and reading lots of books, the end of winter brought maisie's 3rd birthday!
